Ritmo is an interval-walking app for Android. This policy explains what data Ritmo handles, why, and the choices you have. Ritmo is local-first: it is built to work fully on your device by default, and if you do not sign in and enable Cloud Sync, nothing is transferred off your device — your walk sessions stay in local storage and your height stays in local device preferences. The cloud handling described below applies only if you sign in and enable Cloud Sync.
Who we are
Ritmo is operated by the developer of the Ritmo app. For any privacy question, contact jithinliveshere@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account information — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email and a user identifier used to store your data securely.
- Walk session records — your walk sessions, including duration, timestamps, and interval details (the alternating slow/fast segments), so you can review your progress.
- Step count — read from your device's hardware step counter during a walk, to measure your activity.
- Estimated distance — calculated from your step count and height. This is an estimate only; Ritmo does not use GPS or collect your location.
- Height — optional, entered by you in Settings to improve distance estimates. If you don't provide it, Ritmo uses a default value instead.
- App preferences — settings such as reminders and session length.
Ritmo does not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers for advertising. Ritmo contains no ads and no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
How we use it
- To run the app — time your intervals, count steps, and estimate distance.
- To save your session history so you can review progress.
- To sync your data across your devices, if you sign in and enable Cloud Sync.
Where your data is stored
On-device data is stored locally on your phone. If you enable Cloud Sync, your walk sessions (including steps and distance) and your height profile are stored under your account using Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), with sign-in handled by Firebase Authentication, on Google's infrastructure. All data is encrypted in transit between your device and our servers.
Third parties and sharing
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising or share it with third parties for advertising. We rely on the following Google services only to provide optional features:
- Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore & Authentication) — to store and sync your data and manage sign-in, if you enable Cloud Sync.
- Google Play Billing — to process the one-time Cloud Sync purchase. Payments are handled by Google Play under Google's own terms; we never see your payment details.
Your use of these services is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Permissions
- Activity Recognition — used only to count your steps during a walk. It is optional; if you deny it, the walk still works and distance is simply not shown.
- Notifications — to show the active-session notification and optional reminders.
You can decline these permissions; the related features simply won't be available.
Retention and deletion
You are in control of your data and can remove it at any time:
- Delete all local data — in Settings, clears all data stored on your device.
- Delete Cloud Data — in Settings (for signed-in Cloud Sync users), removes your synced sessions and stored height/profile from Firestore.
You can also request deletion by email. Full instructions are on our Account & data deletion page. Active cloud data is removed immediately; residual copies in backups are purged within 30 days. Local data remains only on your device and is also removed if you uninstall the app.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU, data-protection law (including the UK GDPR) gives you rights over your personal data. Because Ritmo is local-first, most data stays on your device under your direct control. Where we hold data via Cloud Sync, you have the right to:
- Access a copy of your data;
- Rectify inaccurate data (for example, by updating your height in Settings);
- Erase your data, using the deletion options above;
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Withdraw consent at any time by disabling Cloud Sync and deleting your cloud data.
To exercise any of these rights, contact jithinliveshere@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
Children
Ritmo is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
